About This Product
This is a modern, hands-on variant of the historic Magdeburg experiment. Pupils place the rims of the two cups together and squeeze, pushing out the air between them; the outside air then holds the cups shut. Pulling them apart by the finger handles turns into a surprisingly hard tug of war, and the release posts let the seal be broken so the cups can be reused straight away.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do the rubber Magdeburg hemispheres need a vacuum pump?
No. Students squeeze the two cups together to force out the air between them, so the demonstration works without any pump.
How are the cups separated after the demonstration?
Each 7.5 cm hemisphere has 2 release posts for breaking the seal, as well as 2 handles for the tug of war.
